I read an article this evening about concerns in the retail industry that consumers now have expectations that "sale" means more than 50% off.
Well, duh. That IS what sale means!
That's just the rest of the world catching up with me and my cheapness. Seriously, if your merchandise (I'm looking at you, Banana Republic) costs 60% more than it should at full price to start with, and you lower it by 60%, it's still 60% more than I'm willing to pay for it. And that's why I am still not spending my money at Banana Republic, even though I love their clothes.
However, The Children's Place has GREAT sales that require me to spend no more than $7 on a pair of fleece pants for Mr. Poopit. If pants were $7 at Banana Republic, I'd be buying that place out.
We live in southern New England. We don't need $2000 hand bags, and where would we wear them, anyway? Bickford's? Not that Banana Republic has $2000 bags, I'm just saying.

Why Is Everyone So Surprised That Consumers Expect Deals???

I've probably already told you this, but I stopped shopping at the Banana republic the 1st time I tried shopping there in the first place. I went in somewhere in the late 80's early 90's and tried desperately to get someone to help me, to get someone to even acknowledge my existence to no avail. I left annoyed and came back one other time to the same results. Yeah, I'm good with The Banana Republic, thanks.
Ps. Bickford's blows.
I'm right there with you. And any store that sells sweaters that shed and pill all over the place sucks out loud.
